Herbal Medicine Cabinet

by LeAnne K. Thomason, Licensed Acupuncturist

Being a practitioner of Chinese medicine for over 8 years, I am still amazed at how important plants are for our health. Take charge of your immunity with powerful herbal remedies to prevent and minimize disease. Eating nutrient dense veggies and drinking medicinal teas are a great and simple way to boost your immunity. The antioxidants, alkaloids, essential oils, etc are part of the plant’s power to protect itself, and while these plants and herbs may taste bitter because of it, the resulting immune boost we get is sweet.

With the cooler climate keeping us indoors and more exposed to opportunistic bacteria, now is the time to create your Herbal Medicine Cabinet. Our clinic offers a preventative and curative remedies for wellness. Here are the ones we highly recommend everyone keep close at hand.

spice and herb collectionEchinacae C -Daily Health & ‘Cold’ Prevention.

The truth is that people are surrounded by micro-organisms all of the time. We can keep our defenses up and bodies in balance by eating a diet full of organic plants, which also support our healthy gut bacteria. And when our defenses fail a bit, having the right plant remedy gives us that quick boost we need to get better quick. I never let someone who feels sick go around without herbal support, and you shouldn’t either.

Boost your Herbal Medicine Cabinet and give yourself and your family the plant medicine that makes a difference.

Contact our office today to place your order for any of the above remedies, or with any questions about which herbal remedy may be right for you.

And a Happy Healthy Holidays to you and your loved ones!!!

Happy Holiday Tips to keep you Healthy

‘Tis the season…the season for merry making.

There are many things to be grateful for, and our immune system is certainly one of them.

Keep your immune function strong with these 5 simple tips:

Tip 1. Wash your hands often. Door handles, handshakes, public restrooms, etc. put your body in close contact with many varieties of bacteria and even some viruses, all hungry for someone to host them for the holidays. Best plan is wash those hands for 30 seconds with soap and warm water. Rinse, repeat frequently.

Tip 2. Wipe down your table and other common areas with non-toxic disinfectant wipes. Researchers out of University of Arizona found that telephones, desks, water faucet handles, door handles, and computer keyboards contain large amounts of germs that cause colds and flu.

Tip 3. Keep sugar and alcohol consumption to a minimum. The amount of sugar and alcohol ingested can dehydrate you. Plus they will spike your body’s inflammatory and insulin response, leaving you with fewer defenses against opportunistic bugs.

Tip 4. Drink more water. In the fall and winter, it is easy to overlook your thirst and get dehydrated. Make sure you consume 8 glasses a day.

Tip 5. Get enough sleep. During sleep, your body’s immune system goes into high gear to protect you from illness. Lack of sleep can reduce immune functioning, making you susceptible to sickness.

Let your immune systems shine this season.

And get ready for our Clinic Cleanse coming up in January where we take three weeks of great eating to a new level. Stay tuned for more details.
